The regeneration of Battersea

Monday 18th April 2016

Battersea has been transformed over the last decade and continues to evolve, with a high number of ongoing projects in the area. Just ten years ago, £11.4 million was spent to regenerate Battersea Park, including restoring the beautiful fountains. In 2011 the winter garden was opened, marking the successful completion of an extensive project during which 303 trees and shrubs, over 22,000 perennial plants and over 46,000 bulbs were planted.

The development of Battersea Power Station has been vitally important for the area, bringing new life to one of the most iconic structures making up the London skyline. The plan to regenerate the site to create new homes was met with enthusiasm, as the building had been allowed to deteriorate for many years since its closure in the early 1980s. The regeneration captured the interest of buyers, and many properties were sold years before they are due for completion.

The transport infrastructure in the area is also getting a huge upgrade. The Northern Line will be extended and Battersea will receive two new Zone 1 stations in 2020, giving travellers quick access across the entire capital.

Battersea is incredibly popular with young professionals and families, particularly as there are many highly rated schools in the area, many of which command excellent prices. There are also various leisure opportunities in the area, such as visiting Battersea Park, taking riverside walks, enjoying the shops and sampling the restaurants and bars. The Power Station project will bring a new high street and even more attractions for residents to enjoy.
